Game 1: Wayland 13 - TK 0

Big Fourth Inning Leads Wayland Past Thornapple Kellogg

Wayland scored seven runs in the fourth inning, which helped them defeat Thornapple Kellogg 13-0 on Tuesday.

Wayland got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after TK committed an error, and Carli Miklusicak single, each scoring one run.

The Wildcats added one run in the second.  Reese Veltman singled, making the score 3-0.

A single by Shelby VanHouten and an error helped Wayland extend their early lead in the third.

Wayland scored seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Base hits by VanHouten, Hannah Rairigh, Madi Ludema, Kaidence Burton and Kaylee Lown all scored runs, along with two errors committed by the Trojans.  

Kylee Hoebeke stepped in the circle first for TK.  She surrendered 13 hits and 13 runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking five.  Ludema started the game for the Wildcats.  She gave up four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking one. 

Kenzie Bouma, Shelby Robinett, Emily Stevens and Hoebeke each collected one hit for Thornapple Kellogg.

Wayland tallied 13 hits in the game.  VanHouten led the Wildcats with three RBIs in the number nine spot in the lineup.  She went 2-for-3 on the day.  Leadoff hitter Rairigh led Wayland with three hits in four at bats.  Ludema and Lown each collected multiple hits for Wayland.  Rae Stallard paced Wayland with three walks.  Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying five walks for the game.  

Game 2: Wayland 16 - TK 1

Thornapple Kellogg With Tough Game Against Wayland

Thornapple Kellogg couldn't keep up with Wayland and fell 16-1 in Tuesday's nightcap.  

The Wildcats jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Carli Miklusicak singled, scoring two runs.  Rae Stallard grounded out, scoring one run and a passed ball scored another run. 

Wayland scored eight runs on six hits in the top of the second inning.  Hits by Harmony Laker, Madi Ludema (triple), Miklusicak, Kaylee Lown, and Lauren Wright helped plate the eight runs for the Wildcats.

Wayland added another run in the third off a single by Izzy Johnson, making the score 13-0.

Miklusicak earned the win for Wayland.  She allowed zero hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none.  Adelaide Holderman took the loss for the Trojans.  The right hander went one inning, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking four.  

Holderman, Emily Stevens, and Kylee Hoebeke each collected a hit for TK.  Hoebeke went 1-for-2 at the plate as the shortstop led the team with 1 RBI.

Wayland piled up 13 hits in the game.  Miklusicak, Ludema and Lake each collected three hits for the Wildcats.  Ludema went 3-for-4 at the plate as the first baseman led the team with six runs batted in.  Wright collected two hits for Wayland in three at bats.  Wayland had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game.  Hannah Rairigh and Ludema paced the team with two free passes each.  The Wildcats ran wild on the base paths, accumulating seven stolen bases.  They were led by Miklusicak and Rairigh.

Thornapple Kellogg will travel to Byron Center Thursday to take on the Bulldogs in a double header.
