Jessie did what Jessie does, and that’s race hard and with a lot of heart. She was representing all of TKHS, and more specifically the girls cross country team, and she represented us all very well. The course conditions were a bit heavy, but the temperature was about perfect. Jessie ran her own race within the cast of 100’s, and landed in the top 33% of the field. With this placing, and with her GPA, this qualifies her for Academic All-State.
The course is not especially spectator friendly, so I didn’t get to see too much of the race, but I was able to see Jessie at 3,000 meters, approximately 4,000 meters, and with about 300 meters to go. Each time she looked strong and in control.
She ran a solid race, running 20:13. It can be tough running as an individual; knowing your teammates aren’t out on the course battling with you, but many of her teammates were in full force lining the way, and cheering her on.
It was a good day for TK cross country. Jessie was an inspiration to all of us and it was great that she was able to not only have this experience, but to provide this experience for her teammates, so that we can look ahead, dream a little dream, and work hard to perhaps come back next year with the whole crew in their uniforms.
Great work Jessie! We’re proud of you.
