Tonight’s meet featured nearly the same story as every other Ok Gold Conference experience for us, with EGR, GRC, and FHC dominating the top three spots, while the rest of us duke it out for fourth. With South Christian having their sights very directly set on us, they outed us by 10 points, and we placed 5th tonight. A few seconds here and there from our girls could have tipped the scales, but this was a good example of what the Sailors are capable of doing.

South Christian has been tough and they’ve been nipping at our heels all season. They edged us out in Portage, and edged us out tonight. At the regional we will all be on our game, and South Christian, although I wish them well, will see a lot of orange, black, and white, but hopefully we will both get out of the region and move on to the state meet to represent the OK Gold.

The next few days, and all of next week, our focus and attention will be on each workout, and our sights will be on bringing our grit and fire to the regional meet. Our girls are strong, are very capable, and they will rise to the occasion. 

I am proud of all of the girls, and there were some performances tonight I would like to highlight. In the varsity race, senior Audrey Meyering matched her season PR. In the JV race, sophomore Kelsey Smith put down a season PR, Shayne Krystyniak had a great performance earning a season PR and dipped under 24 minutes! Junior Haven Beyer also had a season PR, and we had several that were only a couple seconds away from their season PRs. Another notable performance was by Spaniard Clara Argenta-Laorga, who ran under 24 minutes once again! With another race under 24 minutes at the Barry County meet, she could earn her varsity letter. Great work ladies!
