TK Varsity Volleyball opened their season with a 24 team tournament last Friday.  The day started out rocky for the team with a 25-8 loss in the opening set but were able to compete better in the second set with a 25-22 loss to Cedar Springs.  On to Sparta, the team played some excellent volleyball in this match.  We were able to rotate defenses and cover the court very well.  The team ultimately took a 25-23, 25-23 loss to Sparta in a very close, competitive match.  Our next match we would face Zeeland West.  We were down in the first set 24-11 when Paige Zellmer stepped behind the serving line to serve 7 points and get us back in the game.  In the end, we took a loss to Zeeland West, 25-18, 25-19.  We moved on to bracket play to face Calvin Christian.  Again, the girls battled all the way through this match, from covering our hitters to playing great defense.  We played to the last point, and lost 22-25, 27-29.  TK was unable to finish our matches today, but battled through all of our matches and never gave up!  Julia Curtis lead our defense with consistent passing, Claudia Wilkinson had 16 kills, Ellie Shoobridge added 12, and Tyah Jefferson with 9.  Claudia Lems lead the team with 50 assists.  All in all, the day left us with the knowledge that great things are to come this season. 

The varsity team travels to Holland Christian on Wednesday.
