Thornapple Kellogg Trojans Grabs Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Cedar Springs

 

Thornapple Kellogg Trojans  snagged a late lead and defeated Cedar Springs 5-2 on Monday.  The game was tied at two with Thornapple Kellogg Trojans  batting in the top of the fifth when.

In the first inning, Thornapple Kellogg Trojans  got their offense started.  Paige VanStee hit a solo homer.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Cedar Springs tied things up at two when O. Tozer singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Maleah Bailey earned the victory in the pitcher's circle for Thornapple Kellogg Trojans . Bailey surrendered two runs on 12 hits over seven innings, striking out two and walking zero.

K. Koolman took the loss for Cedar Springs. The pitcher allowed 13 hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out six.

Thornapple Kellogg Trojans  hit one home run on the day. VanStee had a dinger in the first inning.

Thornapple Kellogg Trojans  racked up 13 hits.  VanStee, Grace Zube, Sophie Haveman, Mo Sprague, and Carly Snyder all had multiple hits for Thornapple Kellogg Trojans .  VanStee led Thornapple Kellogg Trojans  with three hits in four at bats.  Snyder led Thornapple Kellogg Trojans  with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases.

Cedar Springs totaled 12 hits.  Koolman, G. Garchow, J Slagler, and Tozer each racked up multiple hits for Cedar Springs.  Koolman went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Cedar Springs in hits.

High Score Not Enough to Secure Win for Thornapple Kellogg Over Cedar Springs

Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Monday in a high-scoring affair where Cedar Springs bested Thornapple Kellogg Trojans , 9-6.

Cedar Springs got on the board in the first inning.  K. Koolman singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the second inning, Thornapple Kellogg Trojans  tied things up at one when an error scored one run for Thornapple Kellogg Trojans .

Cedar Springs pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning.  In the third Koolman homered on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

Thornapple Kellogg Trojans  put up three runs in the fifth inning.  Thornapple Kellogg Trojans  scored its runs on an RBI home run by Paige VanStee.

Cedar Springs scored three runs in the seventh inning.  The offensive onslaught by Cedar Springs was led by #31 and O. Tozer, all driving in runs in the inning.

#31 led the Cedar Springs to victory in the circle. The hurler surrendered six runs on nine hits over seven innings, striking out three.

VanStee took the loss for Thornapple Kellogg Trojans . VanStee allowed seven hits and six runs over four and a third innings, striking out five.
